New Open Air Theatre in Virsa Vihar to be ready by March 2020: Jalandhar DC Varinder Sharma

The Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the construction work of new open-air theatre in Virsa Vihar will be completed in March 2020.

Mr Sharma, who took stock of the construction work on Wednesday, said that the open-air theatre is being built at the cost of Rs 10 lakh and the funds were transferred to the executive agency Public Works Department (Building and roads).

He said that the new open-air theatre will have a seating capacity of 200 people besides this will also have a control room for managing sound and lighting system and two green rooms.

The Deputy Commissioner who is also chairman of District Cultural and Literary Society told that the boundary wall around the open-air theatre will also be built for which Member of Parliament (MP) Chaudhary Santokh Singh has already approved a grant of Rs 4 lakh from MPLAD funds.

Mr Sharma told that the new open-air theatre would instil life into the theatre activities in the city with the organization of dramas and plays here. He said that theatre or plays will be a regular feature in the Virsa Vihar in the future.

He said that a blueprint is already being prepared in this regard to ensure the Virsa Vihar could act as a catalyst for connecting our youngsters with the rich culture of the state.

Mr Sharma said that no stone would be left unturned for developing this place as epi-centre of theatre and art activities in the region.

Prominent amongst present on the occasion included Office Secretary of the society Captain Inderjeet Singh Dhami, District Head GoG Major General (Retd) Balwinder Singh, Mr. Alok Sondhi, Principal APJ College Dr. Sucharita Sharma, Dr Inderjeet Singh and others.
