Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said it was unfortunate that the mafias in the State including corrupt ministers like Sadhu Singh Dharamsot had got a new benefactor in new Pradesh Congress president Navjot Sidhu who had taken on the responsibility of patronizing them.
Talking to newsmen here after attending a medical camp organized by Students Organization of India (SOI) leader Gursewak Singh Golu, Mr Bikram Majithia said it was condemnable that instead of demanding action against the sand and liquor mafia as well as Social Welfare minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, the new PCC President was looking up to these elements to strengthen his hold in the Punjab Congress. “This not only exposed Sidhu but the Congress culture which stands for corruption, scams and anti-dalit and anti-poor policies”. Senior leader Surjit Singh Rakhra was also present on the occasion.
Mr Bikram Majithia said Punjabis wanted the immediate dismissal of Dharamsot from the cabinet besides registration of a criminal case against him as well as his arrest in the Scheduled Caste scholarship scam case. “Earlier chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh procured a clean chit for Dharamsot. Now Sidhu is also supporting him despite the fact that the minister had destroyed the future of eight lakh Dalit students who have been thrown out of educational institutions and are not even getting their degrees. There cannot be a bigger sin than this”.
Demanding the immediate ouster of Dharmsot from the State cabinet, Mr Majithia said a free and fair inquiry could not be held in the case as long as Dharamsot remained in the Punjab council of ministers. He said it was condemnable that instead of allowing the CBI to hold a free and fair probe in the SC Scholarship scam, the government was not handing over the file pertaining to the case to the agency.
Speaking about the debt burden of the State, Mr Majithia said in the erstwhile SAD led government power had been made surplus, unique social welfare schemes had been run successfully and the State acquired a world class road infrastructure besides international airports. He said in direct contrast no development work or infrastructure had been created in Punjab during the present Congress tenure. Mr Majithia said similarly in the case of jobs, the Congress government had promised 60 lakh jobs and delivered none.
When questioned about the promises made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the SAD leader said in Delhi people were getting conditional subsidy of 200 units per bill cycle which totaled a sum of Rs 1000 crore.
He said in direct contrast, during the Parkash Singh Badal government a subsidy of Rs 10,600 crore was given to the people. Mr Majithia said people had seen through AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal who had adopted double standards on all issues concerning Punjab be it the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal or issue of stubble burning. “Punjabis will not allow Kejriwal to run Punjab by remote from Punjab”, he added.
