In a direct approach to masses, especially drug affected individuals under Yudh Nashian Virudh, Nasha Mukti Morcha has announced to launch a comprehensive door-to-door campaign to raise mass awareness against drug abuse across the state from May.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Spokesperson Baltej Singh Pannu, joined by
Cordinator Doaba NMM Nayan Chhabra and zonal coordinators, commended the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, for its grassroots efforts to combat drug addiction.
He mentioned that this unique drive will be launched on first week of May wherein Morcha members will visit every household in villages (under the First phase), later towns, and cities to educate residents about the dangers of drug abuse. This direct approach aimed at addressing drug affected people by offering them all kind of assistance in treatment/rehabkitation so that they can get over this abuse. ”
We have a wide range of drug de-addiction program where drug affected people can get proper treatment and have a opportunity to reintegrate with the mainstream”, he added.
Mr. Pannu further mentioned that this campaign will include street plays (Nukkad Natak) in village common areas to highlight the issue. Likewise, tecovered youth will share motivational talks to inspire others, while those needing treatment will be referred to de-addiction program.
He further reiterated that the campaign will persist until drug traffickers are eradicated from Punjab. He also noted the state government’s efforts to engage youth through sports, with villages being equipped with libraries, playgrounds, and gyms tailored to their interests.
The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched a decisive war on drugs, and this drive focused on creating a human chain which will break the network of drug peddlers.
Highlighting the role of families, Mr. Pannu urged parents to educate children not to accept food or drink from strangers, as drug use often begins at a young age and in schools. He also hailed the efforts of Punjab Government to ban energy drinks in educational institutions.
The Morcha has divided Punjab into five zones, each led by appointed coordinators, he said the Doaba region has been decided into four zones including Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
He highlighted that Nasha Mukti Morcha will play a crucial role in eradicating drug menace from Punjab Under Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign.
He mentioned that this campaign does not belong to a party or Government but it is a campaign of every Punjabi. He urged masses to transform Yudh Nashian Virudh into a mass movement by joining hands with Government in huge numbers.
Earlier responding to media persons, Mr. Pannu condemned the cowardly attack on tourists in Pehalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. He further noted that Punjab is in safe hands as Punjab Government was according top prioritu law and order situation in the state.
No one will be allowed to disrupt peace and harmony in the state, he added. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion Jalandhar Incharge Atul Agnihotri, Hoshiarpur Incharge Satwant Singh, Kapurthala Incharge Pardeep Thind, SBS Nagar Incharge Sethi Udhowal, besides others.
