NAPA raises pertinent questions about the status of NRI Sabha Punjab, urges Govt to clear the air

Jalandhar July 30, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has urged the Punjab Government to clear the air whether NRI Sabha Punjab is a Government Body, Semi Govt, Registered Society or Non-Profit Organization.

NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said that NRI Sabha Punjab was formed with a hidden agenda and it was formally inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab then Lt. Gen. (Retd) B.K.N. Chhibber on 27.10.96.

This NRI Sabha was got registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on March 20, 1998.

Satnam Singh ChahalChahal said that NRI Sabha is not meeting the expectations of the Punjabi Diaspora for which Punjabi Diaspora is very much disappointed by the very poor performance of the NRI Sabha.

He further said that several thousand rupees are being wasted on the maintenance of the office and salaries of Staff but productivity is equal to zero.

He urged the NRI Sabha to release a report card of performance since at least the last three years so that Punjabi Diaspora can know the actual performance of the Sabha.

Commenting on the ongoing developments in the Sabha, Chahal said those who have muscle power can play these kinds of games for fun only otherwise this will not serve any purpose of the Punjabi Diaspora.

Commenting on the Statement of ex-president of the Sabha Jasvir Singh Shergill, Chahal said if the Sabha is registered as a society only under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 then arising issues should be solved within the Sabha Only.

He said that the NRI Department in the Punjab Government is different department which include Minister, NRI Commission, ADGP/NRI, and other NRI Department officers. NRI Sabha is nowhere in the Govt Department which is only a Society registered under Registration Act, 1860.
