MRS-PTU’s decision to hold result has ruined future of 2,000 students, AAP seeks Amarinder’s intervention

Chandigarh, May 7, 2020  (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, has taken a serious notice of withholding of the results of thousands of students of the colleges affiliated to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS-PTU), Bathinda, saying that the decision had ruined the future of more than 2,000 students studying in them.

He said that the decision, which came at a time when the students and their families were fighting the corona-viruses, adding to their woes. He alleged that thousands of students and educational institutions were subjected to unmerited harassment due to wrong policies of the governments in the state.

In a statement issued from party headquarters, Harpal Singh Cheema said that some of the affected students had contacted him to inform that about 1,012 colleges in the state had not cleared their examination dues to the university, prompting (the University) it to withhold the results of all the colleges.

Cheema said that under the Post Matriculation Scholarship (PMS) scheme, the state government owed a whopping amount of about Rs 1,850 crore to these colleges, leaving a large number of students rue an rant in resignation, saying Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh should immediately intervene in this matter and resolve it.

Harpal Singh Cheema said that on the one hand the AIECTE and other top-ranking educational institutes of the country had been suggesting not charging any fees from the students and instructing the college managements to pay the salaries to their staff amid corona crisis, while on the other hand MRS-PTU had withheld the results of thousands of colleges for obvious reasons.

The LoP further said that if the colleges had failed to pay the fee to university, what was the fault of the students at large? He lamented that their studies were badly affected due to the corona-induced lockdown, while the university had yet to announce the results of the last semester.
