In a major move aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting infrastructure, Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla conducted a comprehensive ground survey of key railway crossings in Amritsar, accompanied by officials from the Central Railway team.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the feasibility of constructing overbridges or underbridges at various railway gates across the city and surrounding villages. These projects are expected to significantly improve daily commute and reduce traffic jams.
The inspection covered several critical crossings including Shivala Gate, Kot Khalsa, Joda Gate, Putlighar, Chheharta Gate, Jahangir Gate, and Majitha Gate. MP Aujla interacted directly with residents and commuters at each site, listening to their grievances and assuring prompt action.
“There are around 16 railway gates in the city, all of which were evaluated today,” Aujla stated. “Based on ground realities, we will determine whether an underpass or flyover is best suited for each location. A detailed feasibility report will now be compiled and submitted to both the state and central governments.”
While previous proposals were sent to the Punjab government, the lack of available funds stalled progress. MP Aujla pledged to secure central funding and push for budget approval during the current parliamentary term, similar to his successful initiative for the Rigo Bridge.
He emphasized that resolving traffic congestion at railway crossings is a top priority, and he is committed to delivering the necessary infrastructure to serve the city’s growing needs.
