A 17-year-old girl was found dead in bushes along Cancer Pahadiya Road in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior after she went missing, with police finding marks on her neck and launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased, identified as Anaya, worked at a saree shop in Naya Bazar. Her family has alleged that a youth, identified as Ishan Khan of Mahalgaon, may have been involved in the incident. Police have not confirmed the allegation and are investigating all possible angles.
According to the family, Anaya spoke to her mother over the phone at around 9.05 p.m. and said she would return home shortly. Her mobile phone was switched off about 10 minutes later. When she did not return, her family began searching for her and approached Kampu police station, where a missing person/kidnapping complaint was registered.
Police teams, accompanied by family members, searched for the teenager through the night.
The following morning, police received information about a body lying in bushes near Cancer Pahadiya Road. A police team reached the location, where the family identified the body as Anaya.
A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence before the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Marks around the teenager’s neck have raised suspicion of strangulation. However, police said the exact cause of death would be established only after the post-mortem examination.
The family told investigators that Anaya was in a relationship with Ishan Khan and suspected his involvement in her death. Investigators are examining call records, mobile phone data and other evidence to establish her movements after she left work and determine what happened before her death.
Kampu police station SHO Amar Singh Sikarwar said the search operation was launched immediately after the complaint was received.
“A search operation was launched immediately after the complaint was received. Her body was found near Cancer Pahadiya in the morning. Injury marks were found on her neck. We are examining call details and other evidence. The cause of death will become clear after the post-mortem report, based on which further action will be taken,” he said.
Police said further action would be taken on the basis of the forensic evidence and post-mortem findings.
