Move to impose cut on Cotton MSP revengeful, aimed at targeting Punjab farmers: Meet Hayer, Prof Baljinder Kaur

Bathinda, November 30, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab on Monday strongly condemned the move of the Union Government to impose a cut on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on cotton crop, terming the move as vindictive.

In a joint party statement issued here on Monday, the youth wing president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Prof. Baljinder Kaur (Both MLAs) demanded immediate reversal of the decision of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to impose a cut of Rs 60 per quintal on MSP on cotton crop citing quality and ensure procurement of the produce at the MSP.

Hayer said that on the one hand, farmers across the country were fighting for the repeal of the black laws on agriculture and legal guarantee for procurement of crops at MSP, on the other hand, the central government had imposed a cut of MSP on cotton, which was gross injustice with the aggrieved farmers.

He further said in the Malwa mandis, due to non-procurement of the produce by the CCI, private traders had already reduced the MSP on cotton by Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per quintal.

Prof. Baljinder Kaur on the occasion said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had been supporting the cause of the struggling farmers. She added that anti-farmer decisions by the Union government was an attempt to arm twist the farmers, which won’t be tolerated at any cost. She urged upon the government to take an urgent call on the demands of the farmers and resolve them, sooner than later .
