Modi govt paving way to crush small traders, small scale industries: Jakhar

Chandigarh, 28 April, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government, which always sings the tune of Swadeshi, was busy in facilitating huge trade deals with big companies instead of providing any help to the poor and middle class during the COVID 19 crisis. In such a scenario, the Jio-Facebook deal will pave the way for the downfall of small traders and small-scale industries, he said.

Mr. Jakhar said that it was time for the Union government to deal with the corona pandemic and not to enter into clandestine agreements that would spell doom for small shopkeepers. Such agreements in trade will bring the small trader’s business to the brink of collapse. The decision on the future of millions of small shopkeepers, small and micro enterprises should have been taken into account only after deliberation in the Parliament of the country.

The state Congress president said that the Modi government had earlier monopolized the telecom sector through its favorite company Jio and now it was on a mission to give exclusive rights to a company in the retail market as well. Small shopkeepers, traders and micro enterprises, which were already in the throes of recession, would not be able to cope. Monopoly in any field is neither in the interest of the consumers nor for the country. This will completely shut down the work of small shopkeepers, he feared.

He said that due to the crisis caused by Corona virus, the country’s shopkeepers, small traders and medium enterprises were reeling through a serious economic crisis and most of them were in danger of extinction. Their business has been shut down due to the lockdown. This may lead to closure of these establishments that employed crores of people.

PPCC president demanded the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately announce relief to small shopkeepers, small traders, small and micro enterprises to save the sector from collapse. With the closure of this sector, the unemployment rate in the country will go up drastically which will lead to more serious economic and social crises, he warned.
