Modi, Captain robbed states and panchayats of their financial rights: Harpal Cheema

Chandigarh, June 9, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has termed the 30 per cent cut on all kinds of revenue earned by Gram Panchayats in the state, as an attempt to rob off the financial rights of the Panchayats.

In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Tuesday, Harpal Singh Cheema said the government had imposed a quantum cut in all kinds of income of panchayats in the state through lands, ponds and trees or shops etc., ranging from 20 to 30 per cent, demanding that the Congress government should immediately reverse its decision.

Cheema said that amid the Corona-induced national lockdown, the Congress government had robbed the financial rights off the Panchayats, as the Modi government at the Center had robbed the legitimate financial rights of the states, including Punjab.

The LoP said that the Congress, which had been going hammers and tongs in ‘strengthening’ the Panchayati Raj in the name of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, should clarify whether it the step would to strengthen the system by imposing a huge cut in the revenue of village panchayats by 30 per cent.

The AAP leader said that the attempted robbery committed by state government on the annual income of panchayats had proved beyond doubt that the it had gone bankrupt, both financially and ideologically.

Harpal Singh Cheema threatened, saying that if the Captain government did not reverse its decision sooner than later, the Aaam Aadmi Party Punjab would be left with no choice but to raise its voice both in the state Vidhan Sabha and Parliament.
