MM Singh Cheema appeals Trade Unionists to come together to oppose Union govt.’s disinvestment move

Chandigarh, August 28, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Veteran Trade Unionist and Senior Congress Leader Mr. MM Singh Cheema has strongly criticized the move of the Government of India, to put up 42 Public Sector Undertakings for disinvestment which is going to break the backbone of the largest employers in Public Sector Undertakings.

In a press note issued here, Cheema said, this was a clear cut deviation from the principle from which the PSUs was created in India. All these PSUs were in the strategic sector, where the services and manufacturing were exposed to private profit makers, he said.

Cheema said, “This was the idea generated during the regime of Pandit Nehru and followed by successive governments till UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh to provide a healthy competition via presence of the services in goods manufacturing facilities in strategic sector by Government of India.

The senior Congress leader said that in his entire life time of trade union movement in last five decades till date, he has never seen even a single miser private employer even acting like the way Narendra Modi led Union Government is behaving brazenly.

Mr. Cheema further said Government of India was adopting extreme measures and speeding with breakneck speed in achieving the target of disinvestment to the tune of Rupees 1,10,000 crores in this Financial Year 2019-20 and for next 5 years the plan for disinvestment from the Public Sector Undertaking is more than Rs. 5.1 Lakh Crores.

He said, unfortunately the target fixed will lead to the Government stake holding in strategic PSUs dipping to less than 50 per cent, which will be indirect handing over of the management to the private profit makers.

Mr. Cheema appealed to all Trade Unionists to come together under one banner and oppose this move the Government overwhelmingly.
