Providing ration and other essential supplies for flood-affected families is our collective responsibility, said MLA Kulwant Singh, today, at his office in Sector-79, Mohali.
He flagged off vehicles loaded with 500 cots, mattresses, pillows, and quilts for flood victims.
The MLA informed that nearly 2,300 villages and around 5 lakh acres of land in Punjab have been submerged under water, causing massive destruction to livestock and agriculture. “Punjabis are resilient people. Even when they fall, they rise back stronger. That is why, not only Punjabis from within the state but also those living across the country and abroad are sending relief material according to their capacity,” he added.
He further said that the group has been collecting and dispatching items strictly according to the needs identified by the Nodal Officers, and assured that the dispatch of relief material will continue in the coming days as well.
MLA Kulwant Singh appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the next installment of relief grant at the earliest, as complete rehabilitation requires more financial assistance.
He also reminded that Punjab has always contributed the largest share to the country’s food grain reserves, and now it is the nation’s duty to stand by Punjab in this hour of crisis.
It is noteworthy that MLA Kulwant Singh has already dispatched several consignments of relief material for flood-affected families from his Sector-79 office earlier as well.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Kuldeep Singh Samana, Parmjeet Singh Chauhan, Phoolraj Singh, RP Sharma, Sarpanch Gurjant Singh (Bhago Majra), Harmesh Singh Kumbra, Harpal Singh Channa, Gurpal Singh Grewal, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Panch Gurpreet Singh (Bariali), Sarpanch Rajinder Singh Raju (Badmajra), Gurpreet Singh Kurara and several others.
