The much-awaited ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with only minor modifications, according to a source close to the film.
The source said the certification process involved “hardly any modifications”, allowing the theatrical adaptation to retain the raw and unfiltered essence intended by the makers.
“This means audiences will get to experience the much-awaited theatrical adaptation exactly the way the makers intended it to be seen, retaining its raw, unfiltered essence on the big screen,” the source said.
Reports had earlier suggested that around 35 seconds of footage had been removed from the film. However, the source has claimed that no cuts were made and that the board recommended only a few modifications.
Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who reprises his popular role as Kaleen Bhaiya, spoke about the difference between watching the series at home and experiencing its theatrical adaptation.
“Whenever a performance or art form is experienced communally, the impact changes entirely. Enjoying it in a group creates a unique, shared experience. So, while Mirzapur used to be a ‘leave me alone’ kind of watch, it’s now in ‘party mode’. The world is the same, the characters are the same, but the story is new, and the experience is much grander,” he said.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is presented by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Excel Entertainment.
The film is backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner and co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani.
The theatrical adaptation brings back several familiar faces from the acclaimed series, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Harshita Gaur. Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan are among the new additions to the cast.
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4, 2026.
