New Delhi, Aug 31, 2019-

A 29-year-old online fraudster was arrested from Model Town by Delhi Police who was involved in providing false bonus schemes to insurance customers, the police said on Saturday.

The accused was identified as a resident of Rohini and he was arrested by the northwest district police on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Four wireless phones and one mobile phone were recovered. Gandhi earlier used to run a call centre for a prominent private bank.

DCP (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said a complaint regarding online fraud was reported at Model Town wherein the victim was informed by a person that a bonus of Rs 2,35,000 is awarded to him over his insurance policy by the insurance company and for which the victim had to pay a processing fee.

After registering the FIR, a team was formed and with the help of technical surveillance, Gandhi’s office was traced in the area of Model Town from where he was nabbed.

During interrogation, Gandhi disclosed that he along with his accomplice used to target persons having insurance policy through tele-callers and induced them for providing false bonus on their existing insurance policy. They used to purchase the particulars of the targeted persons through Just Dial and later used to demand a cheque of Rs 20,000 to 50,000 from the victims who used to send cheques at their Kolkata address.

Gandhi further disclosed that he had cheated more than 200 persons with the same modus operandi.  (Agency)
