BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the INDI alliance, holding them responsible for the horrific communal violence in Murshidabad that has displaced hundreds of Hindu families, now forced to live in refugee camps in Malda.
Chugh said that blinded by appeasement and intoxicated with vote bank politics, Mamata Banerjee has forgotten that she is the Chief Minister of all citizens of Bengal, not just of one community.
Her refusal to acknowledge the targeted persecution of Hindus, and her attempt to blame “outsiders,” is a cruel joke when the victims themselves have identified the perpetrators as local Islamist radicals.
Chugh said the tragedy unfolding in Murshidabad is not an isolated event, but a chilling reminder of Direct Action Day of 1946 when Mohammad Ali Jinnah provoked large-scale Hindu killings in Bengal.
“Today, Mamata Banerjee is playing the same divisive role Jinnah once played — ignoring the plight of Hindus, shielding radical elements, and turning Bengal into a communal tinderbox,” Chugh said. He alleged that the TMC has mortgaged its flag and ideology at the office of the Muslim League and has handed over Bengal to the whims of extremists.
He added that even a Hindu school teacher’s home was destroyed by his own students, and women in the affected areas are now demanding the permanent deployment of BSF camps to feel safe in their own villages.
Chugh asserted that the only reason Murshidabad has seen any semblance of peace is due to the presence of central forces — the moment they are withdrawn, the situation may return to bloodshed.
He accused Mamata Banerjee and the Leftists of systematically fooling the Hindu community while allowing rampant Islamic radicalisation to fester in the background. “This is not governance. This is betrayal. The migration of Hindus from their ancestral homes in Bengal is the darkest blot on Mamata Banerjee’s political career,” Chugh said.
