Major Boost to Development In Jalandhar, Projects Worth Crores to Begin Soon: Harbhajan Singh ETO

In a significant development for Jalandhar District, Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat, accompanied by key dignitaries, reviewed progress on multiple pro-people initiatives and announced that several development projects worth crores of rupees will commence in the coming days. The Ministers emphasized the timely completion of these projects to ensure benefits reach the grassroots.

The review meeting, attended by MLA Raman Arora, MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, and Commissioner Jalandhar Municipal Corporation Gautam Jain, highlighted the launch of several vital projects.

The Ministers disclosed that 28 new tubewells will be installed to meet the city’s drinking water needs, with sewerage projects set for completion by December 5, 2024. Additionally, a Rs. 40-crore initiative will address sewerage line cleaning to prevent rainwater logging.

Focusing on cleanliness, the Ministers announced a special project to make Jalandhar clean and green, supported by new machinery procured by the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. Furthermore, over 6,000 street lights worth Rs. 5 crore will be installed citywide, with an additional 1,000 lights for focal point area.

To bolster safety and security, 1,138 CCTV cameras have already been installed, with plans to add 1,500 more in the near future. Road infrastructure has also seen significant progress, with Rs. 120-crore projects completed and tenders worth Rs. 54 crore floated.

The Ministers directed officials to expedite the Lamma Pind-Jandu Singha Road, Mithapur Road, and Surya Enclave projects. Harbhajan Singh ETO also stressed accelerating new power grid projects at Gadaipur and 66 Feet Road to enhance energy distribution. In another development a new sewerage treatment plant with a capacity of 25 MLD has also been planned to cater to the needs of Jalandhar West Constituency.

In rural areas, municipal councils provided updates on water supply, sewerage treatment plants, and road projects, including the Bilga Ring Road and new power grids. He also stressed inter-departmental coordination between key departments for better execution of development projects in the district.

He also took stock of health, education, and social security programs in the district. Both Ministers reiterated their commitment to improving city infrastructure, cleanliness, and public utilities, ensuring timely and efficient execution of these projects to benefit the people of Jalandhar.

Under Social Security Programs review, the Minister said that as many as 2, 32, 011 beneficiaries were taking benefit of this initiative as financial assistance. He also directed the officials to ensure no application was pending for pension benefit under this scheme by approving such cases on a priority basis.

During the meeting Chairman Punjab Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal, Chairman Punjab State Minorities Commission Abdul Bahri Salmani, Chairman District Planning Committee Amritpal Singh, Chairman Punjab Agri Export Corporation Mangal Singh Bassi, Senior AAP Leaders Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, Deepak Bali, Dinesh Dhall, Jeet Lal Bhatti, Pinder Singh, Principal Prem Kumar, Pawan Kumar Teenu, Gurcharan Singh Channi were also addressed the gathering.
