Majithia-led SAD delegation asks Speaker to extend session of Vidhan Sabha

Chandigarh, July 30, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab government has reduced the ensuing state assembly session staring from August 2 .to a mere farce while the state is facing serious law and order problems, worsening condition of farmers , ever increasing unemployment, illegal mining and unprecedented hike in power tariff across all categories of consumers.

After submitting a memorandum to the speaker submitted by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party, a joint delegation of the SAD and BJP legislators urges the speaker to take suo-moto initiative to increase the session in the larger interests of the state and let there be detailed discussion on the burning issues. Reducing session to just two sittings is just to fulfill the constitutional formality, rued the delegation.

Later, sharing the interaction of the joint SAD-BJP delegation, SAD general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia said that the speaker was briefed of the futility of having a short session of the assembly as it would serve no purpose if the issues of immediate concern to the people of the state are not discussed.

However, Majithia expected little from the AAP legislators who are hand in glove with the Congress and working as the B team of the ruling party. He expected that the speaker would take an early decision on AAP legislators who have openly joined Congress though the remaining too are working at tandem with the Congress.

Majithia said the heinous crimes like murder, rape, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and decoity have become order of the day and even the jails are progressively emerging as battleground for inter-gang fights.

Unfortunately, the police have failed to control the situation because of political interference reflected in appointments of SHOs and other senior officers by the congress functionaries –MLAs, Halqua in-charge and the ministers.

Unfortunately, the apathy of police is encouraging human trafficking by the unscrupulous travel agents enjoying the patronage of Congress leaders and now progressively women to are becoming their victims.

On the other hand,. Majitha pointed that the much hyped loan waiver has remained a still baby and the Congress party’s poster boy Budh Singh’s loan is yet to be waived contrary to the party’s poll promise to waive all the outstanding loan of farmers.

The net result is the farmers are taking extreme step of suicide. Not to speaker of waiver, the farmers have not been paid sugarcane, compensation for the natural calamities as the assessment is not done.

The neighboring state of Haryana has hiked the Central government scheme of offering Rs. 6,000 to small and marginal farmers by contributing the enhanced amount from the state government.

Unfortunately, Majithia said the Punjab government has not even thought of offering a matching grant from its own exchequer though the Congress has been crying hoarse that the offer by the Union government was just peanuts.

Majihthia also focused on the growing unemployment as the Congress government is yet to honour its promise of providing unemployment allowance or to create more jobs. On top of it, the youth remain vulnerable to the abuse of drugs as the state government is yet to understand the threat of narco terrorism and has taken a myopic view of the gigantic problem.

The joint delegation has impressed upon the speaker to let the legislators discuss these problems in detail and evolve an appropriate strategy to deal with these problems.

Other MLA’s present were Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, N K Sharma, Pawan Kumar Tinu, Baldev Khaira, Sukhwinder Sukhi, Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, & Dilraj Singh Bhundur.
