Majithia distributes 500 PPE kits among front-line Covid Warriors in Doaba region

Jalandhar, April 30, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia today distributed around 500 PPE kits among doctors, medical staff and Civil and police administration of the Doaba region including Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Nawanshahar, who have been fighting relentlessly against COVID-19 as front-line warriors to protect the people.

He was accompanied by Banga legislator Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi and Youth Akali Dal (YAD) Doaba Zone president Sukhdeep Singh Sukar during this drive.

Addressing newsmen after providing security kits to the COVID frontline staff at Jalandhar, the SAD leader said the rising number of Covid cases in the state proved that the state government had failed in tackling the Corona pandemic.

“Sending a patient home without waiting for his test report and calling him back after finding his report positive proves that the Covid protocol was not being properly followed in Punjab”.

He said it was also shocking that the government was running away from its primary responsibility of protecting the lives of people by not following due protocol by putting people coming back from outside the State through proper quarantine and testing.

Expressing shock at the highest rate of Covid deaths in Punjab, Mr Majithia said “our doctors and other medical staff were still waiting for protective medical gears and are at the highest risk of being infected while treating Covid patients without PPE kits. Government hospitals are battling with shortage of medical equipment including ventilators, gloves and masks”.

Asserting that the rapid testing of the suspected cases would help to flatten the curve of corona pandemic in Punjab, the SAD leader said the latest spike in corona cases was a direct result of state government’s negligence in implementing the Covid protocol when a number of pilgrims and students were arriving in the state.

Appreciating the service rendered by the YAD Doaba unit, S. Majithia said the YAD had extended a great service to humanity by working tirelessly in the field for one month.

“The YAD volunteers have assisted the district administrations, SGPC and NGOs in distributing ‘langar’ to the needy. Now they have collected money and purchased PPE kits from their own resources to ensure safety to the front-line warriors against COVID-19” he added.
