Lt Gen Ranbir Singh reviews Jammu and Kashmir security as tourism curbs eased

New Delhi, Oct 10, 2019-

Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, a day after the government issued orders lifting restrictions imposed on tourism in the valley since August 5.

Lt Gen Singh was briefed about counter-infiltration and anti-terror operations undertaken by security forces during his visit. The valley has been placed under unprecedented security cover after Parliament withdrew special status to Jammu and Kashmir by reading down Article 370 of the Constitution.

Lt Gen Singh was accompanied on his visit to the valley by Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General K.J.S. Dhillon. The top commanders visited formations in the frontier districts along the Line of Control (LoC) as also the hinterland.

“Lt Gen Singh was briefed by the commanders on ground about the current situation as also the recent counter infiltration and counter terrorist operations. The General Officer complimented the formations and units for their sincere efforts towards reaching out to the local population, especially in far flung areas through ‘Sadbhavana’ initiatives such as in the field of education, special coaching programmes, health, sports and during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief situations,” the Indian Army said in a statement.

Officials said Lt Gen Singh extolled the troops for their relentless efforts in thwarting Pakistan’s nefarious designs and maintaining constant vigil in the harshest of terrain and weather conditions.

The commander also reinforced the need to be fully prepared for the emerging security challenges and lauded the exemplary synergy amongst all security forces.  (Agency)
