LPU celebrates Indian Men’s Hockey Team win at Tokyo Olympics

Lovely Professional University (LPU) is in full festive mood while celebrating Indian Men’s Hockey Team Bronze winning at Tokyo Olympics-2020. Indian Team, with 7 LPU student-players, has created history by winning an Olympic hockey medal after a wide gap of 41 years.

The whole campus got resounded with drum beats and rhythmic feats on the tunes of Bhangra and Giddha. Each and every LPU family member including its students, faculty, staff members, stakeholders are feeling proud.

Their individual various social media accounts including Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram and those of the university are brimming with innumerable catchy expressions of enthralment and enjoyment over this unforgettable feat of success.

India has beaten Germany by 5-4 goals to grab the coveted bronze medal. To the five winning goals, LPU MBA students Harmanpreet and Rupinderpal contributed one each. Their team members, Simranjeet Singh scored two; whereas, Hardik Singh registered one.

Illustrative, seven LPU students in Indian Men’s Hockey Team are its Captain Manpreet Singh (MBA), Rupinderpal Singh (MBA), Harmanpreet Singh (MBA), Mandeep Singh (BA), Shamsher Singh (MBA), Dilpreet Singh (BA) and Varun Kumar (MBA).

During the massive celebrations for the glorious win, Lovely Group Chairman Mr Ramesh Mittal, Vice Chairman Naresh Mittal, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, DG HR Singla and all other ranks were especially present to rejoice the much awaited win.

While addressing students and staff members in a special congregation; LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal congratulated the robust Indian team and all Indians for this gala occasion.

Chancellor Mr Mittal announced Rs 10 Lakh to each LPU student who is part of the Indian hockey team. He also informed about the raising of a world class hockey stadium at LPU campus, in addition to already existing international level huge sports infrastructure for various games.

Chancellor Mittal also apprised all about both academic and sports strength of LPU at international level. During the rally, staff members were seen waving tricolours keeping up the national glory for the national game “Hockey” of India. Highlighting, it is India’s third hockey bronze medal in the history of the Olympics. The other two came in 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 Munich Games.
