LPU Bags Overall Champion’s Trophy in AIU Inter-University Rowing Championship

Lovely Professional University (LPU) emerged as the dominant force, securing the Overall Champion’s title at the All-India Inter-University (AIU) Rowing Championship held at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh.

The seven-day event witnessed fierce competition among over 400+ female and 700+ male rowers from universities across the country, highlighting rowing’s growing stature as a premier university sport in India.

With four sets of boats, Single Scull, Double, and Quad, athletes from various teams pushed their limits on water, competing fiercely in 2km and 500m races. Amidst intense competition, LPU’s rowers delivered an outstanding performance, clinching a remarkable 11 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals.

The men’s team contributed 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze, while the women’s team dominated with 9 Gold and 2 Silver medals, reinforcing LPU’s excellence in the sport.

Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor LPU, commended the dedication of the athletes and coaching staff, stating, “This victory reflects the hard work, rigorous training, and competitive spirit of our rowers.

Rowing, though not as widely recognized in India, deserves greater prominence, and our athletes have shown that it has the potential to be a major sport at the university level. LPU envisions nurturing an impeccable sporting culture, ensuring that our students excel not just on the field but in all walks of life.”

Rowing, a sport demanding exceptional endurance, strength, and synchronization, has gained significant momentum in Indian universities, and this championship reflected the growing competitive spirit in the discipline.
