MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that lifting garbage from Bhagtanwala dump is not a permanent solution. He said that until a way to handle garbage properly is not brought, it is not a solution. He said that if there is a shortage of money, he will get it from the central government, but first the state government should prepare the project.
Today, a project of 36.53 crores has been given by the Municipal Corporation to remove garbage from Bhagtanwala dump by Corporation. This garbage will be removed by the company in 15 months.
Reacting to this, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that the issue of Bhagtanwala dump in Amritsar is very big. The people there are forced to live a hellish life because of that dump. Whenever governments change, the discussion is on this issue that when will the people get relief.
He said that if we go abroad today and see how the garbage is being handled, the local body system and bureaucracy here has collapsed badly. They are not paying any attention to these at all.
He said that all the pollution related issues, whether it is Bhagtanwala dump or Tung Dhab drain, are all the issues of the state government, on which no work can be done until they prepare a project.
He said that he had raised this issue in the Parliament as well, on record discussions are also held in the Disha Committee and a written request is given to the state government to find a solution to this. People should be given relief.
Even now, until the Chief Minister and the local body do not pay attention to this, nothing can be done. It has an impact on the historical city as well as the work done with marble and gold on the Golden Temple.
It is also playing with the people. He said that he requests every government that these are the main issues and they should be resolved. He said that as far as money is concerned, he can get the budget passed from the centre but unless a state project is prepared, the problem cannot be solved.
He said that elections will come again and these issues will be exploited whereas now there is a chief minister, a mayor and Councillors, so now the power should be used and a permanent solution should be found because just removing the garbage from there is not a permanent solution.
