Academy Award-winning actress Laura Dern will deliver the Laudatio honouring Hollywood star George Clooney, who is set to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
The Venice Film Festival organisers announced Dern’s participation on Sunday. She will deliver the tribute during the festival’s opening ceremony on September 2 at the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido di Venezia.
Dern and Clooney recently shared the screen in Noah Baumbach’s ‘Jay Kelly’, which competed at the Venice Film Festival in 2025.
The actress has a long association with the festival. She has previously attended Venice with films including Ivan Passer’s ‘Haunted Summer’, Joe Johnston’s ‘October Sky’, David Lynch’s ‘Inland Empire’, Baumbach’s ‘Marriage Story’ and Florian Zeller’s ‘The Son’.
Dern’s performance in ‘Marriage Story’ earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also attended the festival for the presentation of the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to Lynch.
Clooney, who rose to international prominence through the television series ‘ER’, went on to establish himself as one of Hollywood’s leading actors, directors and producers. His film credits include ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, ‘Up in the Air’, ‘Syriana’ and ‘The Descendants’.
A multiple Academy Award winner, Clooney has been recognised both for his acting and producing work and has also directed several films. Alongside his career in cinema, he has been involved in humanitarian initiatives and causes linked to global crises and social justice.
Dern’s tribute will form part of the opening ceremony at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where Clooney will formally receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
