Addressing the media at Jalandhar today, Sukhpal Singh Khaira MLA and former Leader of Opposition welcomed the move of SIT headed by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, to nominate Sumedh Singh Saini and Paramraj Umranangal IGP as culprits in the Behbal Kalan firing case, in which two innocent Sikh youth were killed.
Khaira said the investigation should not stop here and should proceed further to probe the nefarious role of then CM Badal, who according to an affidavit filed by Sumedh Singh Saini before the Justice Ranjit Singh commission had stated that he received a call from senior Badal at 2 AM early morning of 14th October, the day Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan police firings took place.
Khaira said as per the Justice Ranjit Singh commission report the chronology of events clearly show, that the police firing was done with the concurrence of the then CM Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal who was the Home Minister.
Khaira said, while the affidavit of Sumedh Singh Saini stated that Ex CM Mr Badal called him at 2 AM on the morning of police firing, the commission report has also stated that then Akali MLA Mantar Singh Brar talked to Mr Badal from his cell phone and the CM also talked to the DC Faridkot on his phone and directed him to speak to DGP Mr Saini.
Khaira said as per commission records and findings DGP Sumedh Saini had told the DC Faridkot not to worry that he will get the ‘Dharna’ at Kotkapura lifted in a span of few minutes.
Khaira said it is now abundantly clear, that the police firing at Kotkapura had the concurrence of Ex CM Badal.
Khaira said it is also a matter of record that, while the police firing and ‘lathicharge’ at Kotkapura took place in the early morning of October 14 and the Behbal Kalan firing took place almost 3 hours later which could have been prevented, hence the police definitely had the support of their top political bosses.
Khaira said if Mr Badal was against excessive use of force he could have directed the DGP Mr Saini not to proceed with any more firing after the Kotkapura incident but the police again went ahead and brazenly killed two innocent Sikh youth at Behbal Kalan, without any provocation on their part.
Khaira said he is of the firm opinion, that both the police firings couldn’t have taken place without the orders and concurrence of Mr Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal. Khaira said it is now a litmus test for Capt. Amarinder Singh whether he has the audacity and courage to name the Badals in the FIR and ultimately present a challan in the court, or will he continue to honour the pact between the two feudal families of the state.
Khaira said the indictment of Sumedh Saini vindicates our stand that the Behbal Kalan killings were a part of police-political conspiracy that should be probed to the logical conclusion.
Khaira demanded that the Behbal Kalan firing investigation should be taken to the logical conclusion because the facts and turn of events clearly indicate, that the said firing took place on the orders of Mr. Badal that stands confirmed and proved by the Justice Ranjit Singh commission.
Therefore, he said a FIR should be lodged against the Badal duo for their nefarious role in killing the two youth at Behbal kalan.
