Sukhpal Singh Khaira Bholath MLA and President of Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) today strongly condemned the premature release of several Punjab Police officials, convicted for cold blooded killings of Sikh youth during militancy in Punjab.
In a hard hitting statement issued here today, Khaira said that Capt. Amarinder Singh and Modi governments were making mockery of the judicial system and sprinkling salt on the wounds of families of Sikh youth killed in fake encounters.
He said that convictions of these policemen by judiciary had proved beyond doubt that they were guilty of killing innocent people, to create terror in the state.
Khaira said he feared that the five police officers being granted remission and being prematurely released, are the ones who killed human right activist Jaswant Singh Khalra in 1995 in a clod blooded fake encounter.
Khaira said that human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra had raised his voice against police atrocities and killings of over 25000 Sikh youth in fake encounters, on the orders of the then Dgp KPS Gill.
He said it took decades for Khalra Mission Committee and his wife to ensure the conviction of killer cops, who eliminated Jaswant Singh Khalra. He said that if convicted policemen who killed Khalra were being released by the center, it would be a blot on the Indian judicial system.
Khaira said that a few months back Punjab Government had ordered release of four Uttar Pradesh policemen, who killed a Dalit Sikh boy Harjit Singh of village Saharan Majra, in a fake encounter in UP.
He said that the release of four UP policemen was made on the recommendations of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and present incumbent Capt Amarinder Singh. He added that it was not possible that center would release remaining convicted Punjab police officials without consent of Capt Amarinder Singh.
Khaira said in other words it’s a message to killers in uniform that go ahead and eliminate innocents in fake encounters and extra judicial killings, we (governments) will take care of you and get you released. This is the new definition of human rights in India now that amounts to legitimising fake encounter cold blooded murders.
Khaira said that Capt Amarinder Singh was acting like a pawn in the hands of Modi government and he is working against the interests of Punjab to appease his new masters in Delhi. He said that Badal and Capt Amarinder were hand in glove with BJP to release the convicted policemen.
He said that it is a strong indication that the centeral government is preparing for another round of atrocities on the people of Punjab. The center had earlier launched an offensive against people of Kashmir by brute use of force, next could be the turn of Punjab, he warned.
Khaira called upon all opposition political parties to raise their voice against release of convicted policemen. He said that if convicted policemen were released, Punjab would turn into a police state.
