Kejriwal joins AAP Punjab’s protest at Jantar Mantar, seeks repeal of Black Farm Laws

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded that the Narendra Modi-led government at the Center should bring the MSP regimen under the purview of the law to ensure 100 per cent MSP to farmers on all crops, after reversing the three black laws imposed on the farmers in a dictatorial way.

Kejriwal was addressing a ‘dharna’ organised by the Aam Aadmi Party against the anti-people and anti-farmer laws at Jantar Mantar in Delhi here on Monday. During this massive protest organised in support of the farmers, party’s Punjab and Delhi state leadership and volunteers marched towards the Parliament House raising slogans against the Modi-Captain,Badals trio, burning copies of the controversial laws.

As the protestors including party’s Punjab President and MP Bhagwant Mann, Jarnail Singh (MLA) in charge, Punjab affairs and other party leaders, and volunteers stormed the barricades put up by the Delhi police present in great number, prompting them to take leaders, including Bhagwant Mann, Harpal Singh Cheema, Jarnail Singh and volunteers numbering about more than 200 into custody. They were taken to the nearby Mandir Marg police station here, where they were let off after two hours.

The Delhi chief minister made it categorically clear that there would be no compromise on the Government’s evil design to snatch away the agriculture from the farmers of Punjab and handing it over to the patronised corporate honchos.

Kejriwal said that after attaining independence from the alien hegemony, as the country was facing acute shortage of food, the farmers of Punjab had gone the whole hog and toiled hard to make the country self-sufficient by producing more grains, while the wily comparators were nowhere to be seen around.

Arvind Kejriwal said that both the Congress government in Punjab and the Badals, who played a proactive role clearing the passage for the deadly Bills, were now pretending to oppose them, saying that a committee constituted by the BJP government at the centre to draft the Bill top Congress leaders (Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal) were its integral part.

He added that when the Modi Cabinet passed these ordinances, union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal had signed the Bills, saying that the arm-chair champions of the farmers y were now indulging in befooling the farmers by staging protests.

On the occasion Bhagwant Mann said that Aam Aadmi Party had been opposing these black laws from day one and would continue to do so till they were reversed. These deadly laws could not be accepted under any circumstances, he said, as they were not anti- farmers but anti-people, which were being imposed in through a brute force.

He said “We strongly oppose any attempt by the Badals or the Congress to derail the struggle of the farmers and won’t allow them to have their way. I call upon one and all to support the relentless struggle of the farmers and save the ‘annadata’ and others associated with agriculture”.

Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and the Badal family were playing politics against these laws and misleading the people of Punjab, oblivious of the fact that they (people) were aware of Raja Amarinder Singh and Badals, who were mere pawns in the hands of Pm Narendra Modi, a ploy to hide their failings and folibles, which was why they indulging in wily moves to appease Ambanis and Andanis.

Sunam MLA Aman Arora said that Captain, Badal and Modi were all anti-farmers, adding that the Congress, BJP and Badals had always given step motherly treatment to Punjab and its people. He said that these black laws would prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the Modi government.

Delhi Agriculture Minister Gopal Rai on the occasion said that the Narendra Modi government at the Center was hell bent on ruining the farmers, advising it to take a cue from the Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government, which had done so much to better the lot of the farmers there.

Senior leader and Rajya Sabha Member Sanjay Singh said that these black laws had been passed in a dictatorial manner by stifling the dissenting voices. The struggle would continue till these deadly laws were repealed, he said.

Others who were present on the occasion and addressed the ‘dharna’ included AAP MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Aman Arora, Principal Budh Ram, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Meet Hayer, Jai Singh Rouri, Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Master Baldev Singh (all MLAs), all Delhi MLAs and Cabinet Minister Rajinder Pal Gautam, Punjab while state general secretary Harchand Singh Bursat conducted the stage.
