Kejriwal Govt’s refusal to convert Stadiums into Jails for farmers a rap to Centre

New Delhi/Chandigarh, November 27, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has refused to convert Delhi’s stadiums into jails for the farmers holding protests in Delhi against the three contentious central agriculture laws.

The Delhi Home Minister Satinder Jain has rejected in writing the Delhi Police’s written request, saying the Delhi government was against the logic behind arresting farmers and putting them into jails, adding that Delhi stadiums won’t be allowed to be converted into jails.

Meanwhile, senior leader of the party’s Punjab unit and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema has welcomed the decision of the Delhi government, expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In a press statement released on today, Home Minister Satinder Jain, in a written reply to the Delhi police, said that the demands of the farmers were justified and the Central Government should immediately accede to their genuine demands, saying throwing them into jails was no solution to the imbroglio.

He added that the farmers’ movement was peaceful and non-violent, which, he added, was the constitutional right of every law-abiding Indian citizen of the country. Jain said that that the farmers who were leading a peaceful protest could not be locked in prisons, out rightly turning down the demand of Delhi Police request to turn stadiums into jails.

Harpal Singh Cheema through social media thanked the Kejriwal government for its decision taken by the Delhi government and said that the Aam Aadmi Party under the dynamic leadership of Arvind Kejriwal had been fighting with the rights of farmers of Punjab from day one.

Cheema said that Arvind Kejriwal was the only Chief Minister across the country, who led a ‘dharna’ at Jantar Mantar against the three anti-farmer agriculture marketing laws pushed by the Modi government at the centre and had demanded immediate repeal of the laws. Kejriwal had strongly advocated the procurement of all crops, including wheat and paddy, at MSP with a legal guarantee so that the rights of the country’s ‘annadaata’ could be protected.

Cheema further said that the Delhi Police was controlled by the Central government, saying the Police were acting at the behest of the Centre and were putting the farmers into jails. Cheema lauded the decision of the Kejriwal government and thanked the chief minister for the daring step.
