Actor Kareena Kapoor has said she feels motherhood has deepened her abilities as a performer, particularly when portraying emotionally demanding roles involving a mother and child.
Speaking at the trailer launch of her upcoming film ‘Daayra’ on Monday, Kareena discussed the emotional sensitivity required to play Ajooni, a character at the centre of the film’s intense exploration of crime and justice.
Asked whether her own experiences as a mother influence her approach to such scenes, Kareena said the role had remained with her and credited writer-director Meghna Gulzar for giving her a character that brought a new dimension to her life.
“Definitely. ‘Daayra’ is one such film. It always stays with you,” Kareena said, adding that playing Ajooni had given her a new perspective.
Reflecting on her journey as an actor, she said, “Ever since I have become a mother, I have also become a better actor. I don’t know why.”
The trailer introduces Kareena and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the two central characters, who find themselves on opposing sides of a debate over justice following a crime that triggers widespread public outrage.
The film also features Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, ‘Daayra’ is inspired by true events. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios.
‘Daayra’ is scheduled to release in theatres on September 18, 2026.
