Continuing its crackdown on snatchers under the Safe City Project, Kapurthala Police on Wednesday solved nine snatchings of gold ornaments and arrested two accused besides recovering the five gold earrings and 14 intoxicated injections.
The accused have been identified as Ajay alias Phull of Lakshmi Nagar and Sharnjit alias Sunny of village Kadupur, Kapurthala.
Disclosing further in a press release, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the Safe City Project was launched in the city in the last month under which new PCR patrol motorcycles teams were deployed for swift action on every complaint and were directed to keep close surveillance on the activities of anti-social elements.
The SSP said that during checking in areas prone to street/petty crimes, in-charge of police post-Kala Sanghian stopped Ajay and Sharanjit Singh riding FZ motorcycle (PB08-DW-8096) at Sukhani bridge and recovered 14 intoxicated injections from them.
“During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed of committing nine snatchings and revealed they had robbed women of their gold earrings at Ramnik hotel, Bhawanipur, Shekhupur, Kartarpur road, Wadala Bridge, Puda colony, Maqsudan Mandi and adjoining areas of Sukhani”, Khakh told.
The SSP said that the police team has recovered five snatched earrings from the spot as disclosed by the arrested accused.
He said that a case under sections 379-B IPC and other sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against them and with their arrest, more untraced cases of snatching are expected to be cracked.
He added that the accused would be produced in the local courts and would be taken on remand for further interrogation and recovery.
SSP added that with the Safe City Project continues to bring good results, the police have managed to capture the fifth module of snatchers in the Kapurthala and more efforts are being made to ensure effective policing to the general public.
