A motivational talk was organised by Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur campus in which a renowned media professional turned politician who has over 40 years of media industry exposure spoke at length about youth, society and politics.
He started his session by encouraging youth to enter into politics and bring changes in the system at ground level. He compared the picture of Indian politics with foreign politics like in United States of America and Canada etc and threw light over the age of contesting elections.
He shared, “We have so many Indian senior politicians who entered into politics at the later ages of their life and on the other side there are so many young politicians abroad who entered into this field at their age of 30s and 40s and have brought so many revolutions.
This is where our nation lacks and this is why I motivate young minds to step forward and take up the responsibility of being responsible citizens.” He later ironically said that if youth can cast their vote at the age of 18 then why can’t they contest elections at the same age?
While extending his approach, Sandhu discussed the role of media educational institutions and said that the institutes that have compete video studio set ups along with newsletters/magazines must involve their students thoroughly and use this golden opportunity to bring a change while triggering debates over several issues that nation is facing.
Before taking up the queries of the Journalism students from Shahpur and Maqsudan campuses, Sandhu also focused on Wendy Lesko’s youth advocacy model called Youth Activism Project that included need to introduce new education policy, discussion of role of media, drug menace etc.
Harpreet Singh, Vice Chairman CT Group thanked Sandhu for visiting the campus and for sharing his valuable inputs for budding media professionals and said that there should be demand from youth as well to bring changes and vice-versa youthful issues must be highlighted in regional and national media so that youth must remain satisfied and can be retained in India which can further resolve the burgeoning problem of brain drain.
