Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film *Emergency* has been granted a ‘U/A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but only after the filmmakers agreed to make three significant edits.

The board also required the filmmakers to provide factual sources for certain controversial historical claims made in the film.

One of the key edits involved a scene depicting Pakistani soldiers attacking Bangladeshi refugees. The CBFC asked the filmmakers to delete or alter specific visuals, including a disturbing image of a soldier smashing an infant’s head and another scene showing the beheading of three women.

Additionally, the CBFC requested changes to a curse word shouted by a character in response to the death of a leader, as well as a modification to the surname of a family mentioned in the script.

The filmmakers were also asked to verify and provide sources for a line spoken by the character playing former U.S. President Richard Nixon, which made derogatory remarks about Indian women.

Furthermore, the board demanded accurate references and sources for all the research and statistical data cited in the film, including details on Bangladeshi refugees, court judgments, and permissions for the use of archival footage related to ‘Operation Bluestar.’

Emergency, where Kangana Ranaut portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, faced multiple delays before finally being scheduled for release on September 6. In addition to starring in the film, Ranaut also serves as its director, writer, and co-producer.

Despite the CBFC granting certification, the filmmakers did not receive the official certificate, prompting them to approach the Bombay High Court for relief. The film has also been embroiled in controversy, with Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing it of misrepresenting the Sikh community and distorting historical facts.
