BJP MP Retracts Comments Following Backlash Over Trump-Modi Comparison

BJP parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut removed both an X (formerly Twitter) post and an Instagram post earlier on Thursday, following a request from BJP president J.P. Nadda. The posts in question pertained to US President Donald Trump.
The BJP MP for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat had apparently made comments about US President Donald Trump that drew criticism on social media. This backlash prompted concern within the BJP regarding the potential fallout of her remarks, which reportedly included a ‘comparison’ between Trump and Prime Minister Modi. The party is already working to manage the fallout from controversial statements made by senior party leader and MP minister Vijay Shah concerning Colonel Sophiya Qureshi.
Kangana Ranaut took to X to announce that she had deleted the Trump-related posts at the direction of J.P. Nadda, characterizing her since-deleted comments as a “personal opinion.”
“JP Nadda ji called and asked me to delete the tweet I had posted regarding Trump asking Apple CEO Tim Cook not to manufacture in India. I regret posting that very personal opinion of mine, as per instructions, I immediately deleted it from Instagram as well,” she stated in her X post.
Kangana Ranaut’s initial posts reportedly expressed her displeasure with US President Trump’s appeal to Apple CEO Tim Cook to prioritize manufacturing in the US rather than contributing to the “Make In India” campaign.
While Kangana Ranaut’s posts have been deleted, screenshots circulating online indicate that she drew a comparison between Donald Trump and PM Modi, allegedly portraying the US President as “inferior” to his Indian counterpart.
“What could be the reason for this love loss? Is this personal jealousy or diplomatic insecurity?” she reportedly asked in the now-deleted posts.
It is worth noting that US President Trump recently suggested at a business event in Doha that Apple CEO Tim Cook should focus on “building” in America rather than India, citing India’s high tariffs.
Trump’s stance on Apple’s manufacturing in India comes at a time when Apple is considering expanding its production in India, diversifying its manufacturing base away from Beijing in response to trade tensions between the US and China.
