Hon’ble Ms. Justice Lapita Banerji, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh and Administrative Judge, Sessions Division Fazilka, visited and conducted a detailed inspection of Sub-Jail, Fazilka on 21.03.2026. During the visit, she reviewed the jail administration, security arrangements, sanitation conditions, and the basic facilities being provided to the inmates.
During the inspection, Hon’ble Justice Lapita Banerji held a meeting with the jail administration and obtained information regarding the efforts being made for the welfare of the inmates. She also interacted with the inmates to understand their problems and needs, and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials to ensure better facilities for them.
On this occasion, Hon’ble Ms. Justice Lapita Banerji also inaugurated the video conferencing facility at the Legal Aid Clinic in Sub-Jail, Fazilka. Through this facility, inmates will be able to avail free legal aid and also communicate with their lawyers regarding their cases. They will be able to receive proper information and legal assistance, which will significantly help in reducing the obstacles faced in accessing justice.
Further, Hon’ble Justice Lapita Banerji inspected the jail kitchen and examined the quality and hygiene of the food being prepared for the inmates. She directed the authorities to maintain satisfactory food quality and ensure high standards of cleanliness.
She also reviewed the legal aid services being provided in the jail and emphasized that every inmate should receive timely free legal assistance. She stressed on making the services of the District Legal Services Authority, Fazilka more effective.
Hon’ble Justice Lapita Banerji directed the officials to further improve cleanliness, healthcare facilities, and living conditions in the jail. She also emphasized the need to promote rehabilitation through skill development and counselling programs for the inmates.
During the visit, Shri Dharminder Paul Singla, Learned District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Fazilka; Ms. Ruchi Swapan Sharma, Learned Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Fazilka; Shri Gurdit Singh, Jail Superintendent; Legal Aid Defence Counsels; jail officials and other concerned officers were present. At the end, Shri Dharminder Paul Singla, Learned District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Fazilka expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Ms. Justice Lapita Banerji for the visit.
