Jarnail Singh Murder Case: Man, who ferried 4 shooters to crime spot among 3 arrested

Amidst the ongoing drive against anti-social elements launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police have arrested three accused persons involved in the killing of Jarnail Singh at village Sathiala and recovered one .32 bore pistol and two vehicles from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurmej Singh of Jandiala, Rajwinder Singh alias Rep of Nawapind and Arshdeep Singh of Nawapind. The Police have also nominated their associate identified as Gurkaranveer Singh of Nawapind for providing shelter and logistic support to the shooters.

The development came 10 days after Punjab Police have arrested accused Gurveer Singh alias Guri, who is a shooter of Bambiha gang and hatched a conspiracy to kill Jarnail Singh. Jarnail Singh was killed by four armed persons on May 24.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs, Amritsar Rural Police have arrested accused driver Gurmej Singh, who ferried four shooters to the crime spot in the Swift Dzire car and later, dropped them at different places after carrying out the murder.

He also provided shelter and logistical assistance to all shooters. Police teams have recovered one .32 bore pistol and the Swift Dzire car from his possession, he said.

The DGP said that following the trail of suspected accused persons, the Police teams then arrested Rajwinder Singh and Arshdeep Singh, who provided harbour to the shooters at their home. Later, accused persons Rajwinder and Arsh with the help of absconding accused Gurkaranveer dropped shooters at different places using the Mahindra Bolero car, which is also recovered by the Police.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh said that Police teams are on manhunt to arrest four shooters and accused Gurkaranveer. Further investigations are on, he added.

The case FIR No. 94 dated 24.05.2023 was already registered under sections 302, 307, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act at Police Station Beas.
