In a Diwali gift to the residents of the district, the Secretary Public Works Department (PWD) Mr Hussan Lal today directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct an elevated platform at PAP chowk to make the flyover operational.
The Secretary, accompanied by MLA Mr Pargat Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet a Singh Bhullar, today held detailed parleys with the NHAI authorities led by Project Director Colonel (Retd) Yogesh Chandra for making the already constructed PAP flyover operational.
He asked the NHAI authorities to ensure smooth merger of traffic coming from Jalandhar city with that coming from Ludhiana. Mr Hussan Lal said that this needs to be done immediately for extending a major relief for the Jalandhar residents who were facing a lot of problems due to traffic congestion.
The Secretary asked the NHAI to conceptualise the proposal and subsequently start the work on this ambitious project.
He said that this work should be executed at the earliest for ensuring smooth and hassle free movement of traffic besides making this flyover operational. Mr Hussan Lal assured fulsome support and cooperation to NHAI from the state government for this noble cause.
The Secretary also asked the NHAI to install proper signages on the newly constructed Rama Mandi and PAP flyovers. He said that it would facilitate the commuters using these flyovers to move towards Amritsar, New Delhi, Hoshiarpur and other cities. Mr Hussan Lal said that he would again review the progress in coming days for its timely execution.
Earlier MLA Mr Pargat Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar apprised the Secretary about the pangs faced by Jalandhar residents due to non operational PAP flyover.
They said that opening of the flyover along with widening of road moving from below the Rama Mandi flyover towards city was utmost important to facilitate the people.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Naresh Dogra, Revenue Officers Mr Mandeep Singh Mann and Mr Vijay Kumar along with other officers were also present.
