Jalandhar to get new Old-Age Home, Rs.7.65-cr proposed for building on 52-kanal land

The Jalandhar district is set to get a new old-age home in Nahla village soon. The district administration has proposed site in the village where the home would come up on 52-Kanal land at the cost of Rs 7.65 crore.

The Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma inspected the site in Nalha village asked Executive Engineer (B and R) Mr Bhagwinder Singh Tuli to start the work soon. He said that a committee also has been set-up for ensuring the regular monitoring of the work.

He said that Punjab Government led by the Capt Amarinder Singh has been continuously working for the betterment of senior citizens and old-age home is just a first step towards ensuring their welfare.He said that old-age home would provide shelter and safer space to elders, who have been either shunned by their own families or do not have anyone to take care of them.

The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the home would also provide the facilities like a free medical check-up, ambulance, food, clothes, and leisure activities

Mr Sharma told that the administration would also allow all to be part of community activities to provide them with a homely and better living environment.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that the district administration is committed to protecting the rights of the senior citizen.

He said that it was need of the hour to ensure senior citizens develop a sense of belongingness adding it was our moral duty to respect and care our elders.

On the occasion, SDO Mr Vishal Angural, Red Cross Secretary Mr Paramjit Singh and others were present.
