Jalandhar to get major facelift as works worth Rs 53-Cr to be kicked off this month under Smart City project

In a good news for the residents the city would get a major facelift as works worth around Rs. 53 Crore would be initiated during the ongoing month under the Smart City Project.

Divulging the details, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Smart City Project Mr. Jitendra Jorwal said that the work of Development/ Improvement of six parks including 3.05 acre Industrial Area Park, 1.90 Acres Tanki Wala Park, 1.28 acres Tobri Mohalla Park, 9.42 acres Beant Singh Park Part I, 8.16 acres Urban Estate Green Belt and 2 acres Dr. BR Ambedkar park along with development/ improvement of green areas under Flyover at DAV College, Pathankot Road and Hoshiarpur road besides the work of Rejuvenation of Bist Doab Canal would be started this month. He said that the tenders of these projects have already been floated and the entire work would be executed at a cost of Rs. 14.95 crore.

Mr. Jorwal said that the main thrust of the move was to ensure that the green cover in the city was enhanced adding that besides beautification the focus of the project was to enhance greenery in the city for effectively combating the environmental pollution.

The Chief Executive Officer also said that project would also help in giving a rejuvenated look to the city besides making it clean, green and pollution free. He said that during the drive special focus would be laid on planting site specific plants, so that they could grow well in the conducive environment.

Mr. Jorwal said that the work of junction improvement of 11 chowks and installation of solar panels at 17 government buildings in the city at a cost of Rs 38.15 crore was also underway.

The Chief Executive Officer said that the work of Junction improvement would be executed at a cost of Rs 20.32 crore during which facelift would be given to 11 chowks of the city including Dr. BR Ambedkar Chowk, Guru Amardass Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk (Jyoti Chowk), Guru Ravidass Chowk, Doaba Chowk, PNB Chowk, 120 feet road and Kapurthala road intersection, BMC Chowk, HMV Chowk and Model Town Intersection. Likewise, he further said that the work on installing solar roof top panels at 17 government buildings covering a total area of 74,193 square meter has also been started.

He said that as per this work solar roof top panels would be installed at 17 buildings including JDA office, Commissioner of Police office, District Administrative Complex, Government Education College, Meritorious School, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, Registrar Office I and II, Government Girls School, Session Court, Sports college, SSP (Rural) Office, Agriculture office, Government High School Basti Bawa Khel, Government Senior Secondary Schools Santokhpura and Mithapur, Government Girls Senior Secondary School Nehru Garden and PAP Complex at a cost of Rs 17.83 crore.

The Chief Executive Officer said that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh the state government was committed giving fillip to the projects under the Smart City Scheme. He said that the work on these projects would be completed very soon so as to ensure that city residents were immensely benefitted from it.
