In a major haul the Jalandhar Rural Police today busted a racket involved in inter state liquor smuggling with the arrest of a liquor smuggler from Goraya along-with 950 cases (85.50 lakh millilitres) of illegal liquor.
Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said that Station House Officer Goraya Mr Kewal Singh received a tip off that an inter state liquor smuggling gang was active in the region and Rajinder Singh S/o Harbhajan Singh a resident of Tarsikka in Amritsar was doing the Bussiness of supplying illegal liquor in the state from other states.
He said that Police had clue that Rajinder Singh would be coming to Goraya with illegal liquor as today he had loaded it from Karnal in Haryana and was coming via Ludhiana. Subsequently, Mr Mahal said that the Police party had organised checking at Goraya near RK Dhaba when they spotted a truck bearing number HR 58 -7728, which was coming from Phillaur side.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said that during the thorough checking of the truck 950 cases of liquor Jubilee Rare with a label for sale in Haryana only was recovered by the Police.
He said that the Police has arrested the driver identified as Rajinder Singh a resident of Amritsar district and a case has been registered against him under section 61 of the Excise Act. Mr Mahal said that further investigation from the arrested smuggler was going on.
