Jalandhar Police crack Phillaur blind murder case, arrest Ferozepur Youth

The Rural Police on Wednesday have cracked the blind murder case of Phillaur resident by arresting a Ferozepur youth from Kartarpur market of the district.

The accused has been identified as Kanwaljeet Singh (19), a resident of Mallah Rahim Ke Hithara in Ferozepur district. The police have also seized .30-bore pistol, four live cartridges, one magazine and one snatched white Alto.

Speaking in a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said CIA staff in-charge inspector Mr Shiv Kumar, sub-inspector Mr Nirmal Singh along with police party laid checking in Kartarpur market on a tip-off that Kanwaljeet along with Jugraj Singh of Jyotisar in Jandiala Guru had been sneaking into the district in a snatched Alto car with the fake registration number (PB08-DS-3445) and had been carrying weapon too.

SSP added that later, the police party stopped a white Alto and quizzed its drive who revealed his identity as Kanwaljeet and was immediately arrested following the cops seized .30-bore pistol, four live cartridges and one magazine.

SSP told a case under section 411/482 of IPC and 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act was registered against him.

Mr Mahal said during interrogation, the accused confessed to killing Harpreet Singh Chintu of Bhandera Mohalla, Phillaur, who was shot dead after unidentified assailants pumped 13 bullets in his body on October 30, 2019, along with accomplices Harpreet Singh Happy alias Tiddi of Lasuri village, Shahkot and Satwant Singh of Daupur village Kapurthala and others on the instructions of Navpreet Singh Navi of Bajir Bhullar village in Amristar. Two pistols were used by them in the murder including .30-bore pistol recovered today.

SSP said that Chintu was facing six criminal cases including heroin smuggling and fake currency and got bail-in October 2019.

Mr Mahal said Chintu had a dispute with Navi on the consignment of heroin or money and when the former came outside the jail, Navi hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Chintu.

He further stated that on January 6, Navi called Harpreet Singh Tiddi in Sonipat for taking money but in-turn Harpreet was shot dead and Satwant sustained injuries after gang members opened fires each other. Satwant is undergoing treatment in Sonipat hospital.

The Sonipat police had recovered a .9mm pistol near the body of Harpreet which was also used in Chintu murder case.

He said that the snatching of Alto on October 4, 2019, in Lambra was also part of the conspiracy.

SSP said that a team of Jalandhar Rural police will soon move to Sonipat to take custody of Satwant and have booked Navi and others in this murder case.

He said that Kanwaljeet would be produced in the local courts for further custody.
