Jalandhar MP & DC dedicate new building of ‘Sakhi One-Stop Centre’ to city residents

Member of Parliament (MP) Chaudhary Santokh Singh accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma dedicated the new building of Sakhi-One stop Centre in Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital, to the people on Tuesday.

Divulging the details, MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh and Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma said that amount of Rs 48 lakh has been incurred on the construction of this building which has separate rooms for medical aid, police assistance, legal aid/case management, psychosocial counselling and temporary support services besides a 10-bedded shelter room in it.

They said that the centre which was earlier operating in the Mother-Child Care Centre has been offering assistance to the victims of the cases like rape, domestic violence, physical and mental harassment others.

They stated told that the basic purpose of the centre was to ensure that rights of the victim were protected and they were able to secure justice through proper assistance by the authorities.

They told that the new building would prove a boon for the needy women by providing a healing touch to victims of domestic violence, exploitation and others.

They said that one Stop Centre – Sakhi provides an integrated range of services to women affected by violence, exploitation or any other problem.

They added One Stop Centre provides support and assistance to women affected by violence,both in private and public spaces besides safeguarding their interests in other cases like sexual exploitation, physical or mental torture and others.

MP and Deputy Commissioner said that in case the victim was minor the cases were solved in coordination with authorities/institutions established under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.

They said that the new building has also been integrated with 181- women helpline of Punjab Police and the integration of Sakhi-one stop centre with women helpline-181 will make the services more accessible to the women in distress telephonically.

On the occasion, CJM Mr. Jaapinder Singh, District Program Officer (DPO) Mr Amarjeet Singh Bhullar, Executive Engineer PWD Mr BS Tuli, DCPO Mr.Ajay Pal, SDOs Mr. Prem Kamal and Mr. Vishal and SMO Dr. Chanjeev Singh and others were present.
