Jalandhar incident: Not a shootout, an incident of mishandling of weapon, says Commissionerate Police

Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have claimed that the Monday incident of firing in City’s Kishanpura locality, where one person was killed, was not a case of a shootout but an incident of mishandling of weapon by the victim himself.

The police have claimed that the incident which at first seemed to be and was reported as an incident of firing, was in fact a case of mishandling of a weapon by Happy Sandhu, a resident of Suchi Pind. He also said that the Police were working on a suicide angle also.

In a press release issued late in the evening, Gurmeet Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police categorically said that was a case of mishandling of a weapon.

The DCP stated that the deceased Happy Sandhu along with his friends Inderjit Singh and others were present in the house at Kishanpura Mohalla, where he mishandled the weapon as a result the gun went off.

He mentioned that Inderjit Singh along with his friend had taken the deceased to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

His friends left his dead body at the hospital and ran away.

He added that the friends of the deceased had mopped the blood strains at the crime scene while taking him to the hospital.

The DCP said that during the investigation it was found that the deceased Happy Sandhu was booked in several criminal cases and wanted to Commissionerate Police.

He stated that the Police teams were also working on a suicide angel behind this incident.
