Jalandhar Improvement Trust sets its wheels in motion for ensuring affordable Housing Scheme for EWS

Under Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s ‘Mission Fateh’ aimed at resurgence of state from Covid 19 pandemic, the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) today sets the wheel of its machinery in motion for ensuring affordable Housing scheme for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the society.

A meeting to this regard was held today at the office of the Chairman of Jalandhar Improvement Trust Mr. Daljeet Singh Ahluwalia. Chairing the meeting Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, accompanied by MLAs Mr Pargat Singh, Mr Rajinder Beri, Mr Sushil Kumar Rinku said that rapid urbanization and migration to cities have caused severe urban housing shortages in Punjab in general and Jalandhar in particular, especially for the economical weaker sections.

He said that hence, the need of an hour was to boost up Affordable Housing Project and accordingly boost up the economy, due to which the state government has contemplated this move. Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that for developing the project of Affordable Housing, the Jalandhar Improvement Trust could play a pivotal role.

Meanwhile, briefing the MP and the MLAs, the Chairman of JIT said that as per the directions of the Punjab government, the Jalandhar Improvement Trust would be sending its recommendation for the policy to be framed by the state government as per which the civic body would soon start the identification of land and if the land belongs to Punjab Government or was in the ownership of any of the Department of the State/ Center , then the Improvement Trust would submit a Cabinet note along with the revenue record of the land to the Department of Local Government.

He said that after ascertaining the cost of the dwelling units of minimum carpet area 30 sqauare metre, the process for the identification of the beneficiaries would be initiated. Mr. Ahluwalia said that applications would be sought through print media and other audio visual mode like Radio or Television adding that for making people aware about this component, Loan Melas would also be organized by the Banks.

The Chairman said that buying capacity of the buyers would be assessed and banks would be involved for the same purpose. He said that Improvement Trust would prepare clear list of the interested beneficiaries having proper buying capacity adding that the said list would be submitted to the Department of Local Government Detailed Project Report.

Mr. Ahluwalia said that Banks would be roped in to provide home loans to these listed beneficiaries falling in LIG or MIG category as per the financial norms.

Welcoming the proposals, the MLAs Mr Pargat Singh, Mr Rajinder Beri, Mr Sushil Kumar Rinku envisioned that this initiative under ‘Mission Fateh’ would help to channelize the flow of money in the market hence, strengthening the economy.

They said that the construction of more number of houses in the city would not only resolve the housing problem in it but would also generate employment opportunities in the construction Sector. Assuring fulsome support and cooperation to the civic body for this noble cause they said that this project would give much needed impetus to the development of the city and prosperity of its residents.

On the occasion, senior Youth Congress leader Mr. Kaku Ahluwalia, EO Mr Jatinder Singh and others were also present.
