Jalandhar DC Varinder Sharma orders evacuation of 81 villages

In wake of the release of 2,23,746 cusec of water from the Ropar Headwork, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma has asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot to get 81 low lying and flood prone villages evacuated to save them from fury of floods.

The Deputy Commissioner has asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to get these villages out of which 63 fall in Shahkot Sub Division, 13 in Phillaur and five in Nakodar Sub Division evacuated at the earliest.

These villages include Rame, Teharpur, Chak Bahmanian, Rajawali, Janian, Chak Wadala, Gatta Mundi Kasu, Mandi Sherian, Sand, Fakruwal, Bhoepur, Bajwa Khurd, Aldalpur, Talwandi Bootian, Nawan Pind Khalewal, Rohru, Kamalpur, Jatour Kalan, Chak Gadaipur, Bhagwan, Gatt Raipur, Janian, Chahal, Maharajwala, Mundi Chollian, Kotha, Kaunt Bagga, Fazalwala, Sandhanwal, Longowal, Sahalpur, Budha Wala, Bajwa Kalan, Sarangwal, Killi, Sangatpur, Teharpur, Pato Kalan, Pato Khurd, Kohar Khurd, Jafforwal, Manakpur, Kakkar Kalan, Kakkar Khurd, Kotli Kamboan, Heran, Mobriwal, Raipur, Gatti Pirbaksh, Kang Khurd, Teh Khuahalgarh, Jalalpur Khurd, Gidderpindi, Darewal, Kutbewal, Mandala Chhana, Hathhian, Danewal, Baupur, Lohgarh, Danewal and Manumachi of Shahkot Sub Division.

Likewise, the Deputy Commissioner has also ordered the evacuation of low lying and flood prone villages Achanchak, Sholley Bazar, Kadiana, Ganna Pind, Meowal, Mau Sahib, Khaira Bet, Lassara, Raipur Arayian, Selkiana, Jhandepeer, Bholewal and Bhoda of Sub Division Phillaur besides villages Butte Da Channa, Maddepur, Sangowal, Gadra Boda and Nakkian of Nakodar Sub Division.

He said that said that due to excessive release of water from Bhakra Dam safe evacuation of people and cattle from low lying areas was necessary. Mr. Sharma said that the excessive water has been released from the swollen Satluj river and was expected to touch Jalandhar today evening.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation adding that they were already fully geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality arising out of the prevailing circumstances.

He asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates of Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot to be on high alert and coordinate and oversee the evacuation operations of people residing in low lying areas. Mr. Sharma said that the SDMs had already identified safer places in the district for movement of people evacuated from these villages.

The Deputy Commissioner said that arrangements for dry fodder for animals have been made and if need arises the mandis would be converted into relief centres. He said that the Health department has been asked to keep its Health teams ready adding that Powercom has been instructed to gear up for supplying power in proposed relief centres, if the need arises.

Similarly, Mr Sharma said that divers have been put on alert so that they could be roped in if needed adding that no stone would be left unturned for extending a helping hand to people in case of any problem.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was in touch with Army, National Disaster Relief Force and State Disaster Relief Force to tackle with any sort of situation.He appealed to people residing in these villages to move at safer places immediately.
