In order to encourage the voters, especially the youth, to cast their votes during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today inaugurated a selfie point at local MBD Mall.
Inaugurating the selfie point, the Deputy Commissioner said that this endeavor under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) was aimed at enhancing the participation of people in the democratic process. He said that this selfie point which has catchy slogans would motivate the voters especially the youth to exercise their franchise freely and enthusiastically. Mr. Sharma categorically said that voters participation was the most important ingredient for ensuring the success of democratic system.
The Deputy Commissioner said that there was fad regarding selfies amongst the people in general and the youngsters in particular at prominent places. He said that this point would not only provide a new place to the people for getting their picture clicked but would also disseminate the message of ethical voting to them. Mr. Sharma said that the point has been constituted at the very entrance of the mall so that people coming at the mall could use it aptly for clicking their pictures.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that more such selfie points would be established in the city to ensure that more and more voters were motivated for exercising their franchise. He also said that more such efforts would also be made to encourage more and more people to cast their votes in a free, fair and transparent on May 19. Mr. Sharma categorically said that the district administration was committed for ensuring maximum participation of the voters during the ensuing general elections.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Sanjiv Sharma, Assistant SVEEP Coordinator Mr. Surjit Lal and others were also present.
