The Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday interacted with a group of 20 international students and detailed them about the democratic system of the country.
Speaking to the international students pursuing public administration in Lovely Professional University (LPU) at district administrative complex, Mr Sharma accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Development) Mr Kulwant Singh and ADC (General) Mr Jasbir Singh, explained them about the four pillars of democracy including legislature, the executive, the judiciary, and the press.
Mr Sharma stated them about the parliamentary, state, MC and panchayat elections and how the governments are being elected by the people after five-year.
The Deputy Commissioner further told them how the gigantic exercise of elections is being carried out in the country with the help of employees from government’s departments and public sector undertaking who perform several duties during the polls as counting, polling and even supporting staff besides utilizing their services for micro-observers and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) under the supervision of assistant returning officers.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also answered the queries of the students during the interactive session.Later, the group of international students also visited the various governments’ offices and got acquainted about their functioning.The Deputy Commissioner wished them a bright future in the country and hoped they would learn a lot here.
