Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today called upon the students to come forward and become the ambassadors for spreading awareness to encourage the people for not using single use plastic in the district.
Launching a campaign ‘Poly End 2020’-to curb the use of plastic initiated by True Scoop News with the help of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar at Cambridge International School, Choti Baradari, Jalandhar here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was the need of the hour to minimize the hazardous effects of the single use plastic.
He said that single use plastics cause choking of drainage, ingestion by stray animals, land and water pollution thereby causing adverse impact on human health and environment. Mr. Sharma said that a number of alternate options were available in place of plastic which could be used by the people.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the students should vigorously campaign for spreading awareness to encourage the people for not using the single use plastic. Mr. Sharma said that a number of alternates like compostable bags, natural fabrics, recycled paper and other material which could be used in routine and have lesser environmental impact. He said that everyone of us must realize their duty towards the society and use such materials which were eco-friendly.
In her address, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ms. Babita Kaler informed the children to stop asking for plastic anywhere they go, instead start using alternatives.
Managing Director of True Scoop Ms. Khyati Kohli shared some alternatives that students could introduce into their daily lives by which they could avoid using plastic.
On the occasion Chairman of Lovely Group Mr. Ramesh Mittal, Chairman of Cambridge International School Mr. Nitin Kohli, Vice-Chairman of Cambridge International School Mr. Deepak Bhatia, Principal of Cambridge International School Dr. Ravinder Mahal and others were also present.
