Jalandhar Counter Intelligence and Moga Police bust interstate Smuggling Racket, 1.5 kg Heroin seized

Continuing its war against drug suppliers, Counter Intelligence Wing Jalandhar and Moga Police have busted an inter-state drug racket of heroin smuggling and seized 1.5 kilogram heroin procured by Delhi based smuggler from Kot Isse Khan area of Moga district from Darjeeling based drug supplier.

The accused has been identified as Ritesh Gurung ( 27) r/o village Mirik, Darjeeling West Bengal, presently he is staying in South West area of Delhi.

In a press release, AIG Counter Intelligence Jalandhar Mr. HarkamalPreet Singh Khakh said that due to upcoming Parliamentary elections, the police teams are on high alert and closely monitoring the activities of anti-social elements.

Mr. Khakh said, the wing today received a tip off that notorious smuggler Balwant Singh Gupta of village Daullewal in Moga district is in contact with Delhi based smugglers and today he is going to receive a big consignment via a Darjeeling resident Ritesh Gurung (who is presently living in Delhi) in the area of Kot Isse Khan of Moga, if the proper search is conducted smugglers can be apprehend with heavy quantity of heroin.

Acting swiftly, Mr Khah immediately shared this information with SSP Moga Mr Amarjit Singh Bajwa and a joint team of Counter Intelligence Wing and Police party of Police station Kot Isse Khan was set up and moved to search the area to seize the consignment along with smugglers.

“Following the instructions, the police party successfully intercepted one Delhi based smuggler from Kot Ise khan to Makhu road where Ritesh was waiting for the other party and recovered 1.5 Kilogram heroin from his possession which was hidden in a lady’s purse which has many pockets. The drug was packed in the layers so smartly that from outside nobody can think of that in this purse contains 1.5 Kg heroin while other accused Balwant Gupta managed to escape from the spot on a motor cycle”, AIG added.

“Preliminary Interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that he belongs to Darjeeling (West Bengal) and came to Delhi six seven years ago in search of work. He was working as a waiter in a lounge bar where he came in contact with Delhi based smugglers and to earn easy money, he agreed to smuggle this consignment on the directions of Delhi based other smugglers”, said Mr Khakh

He further added that Ritesh came via bus from Delhi, first he went to Chandigarh and from there he came to Moga and reached Kot Isse Khan. This consignment was meant for Balwant Gupta who is operating big smuggling nexus in Moga district. Gupta managed to flew from the spot but police parties are moved to arrest him.

He said that a case under sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the smugglers at Kot Isse Khan police station.

AIG told that the arrested smuggler will be produced before the magistrate by the Police and his police remand will be sought to further investigate the matter and arrest other members of this racket.
