Jalandhar continues to be safe city for women with incidents of chain snatching dipping by 63% in 2019: Gurpreet Bhullar

Jalandhar continued to be safe city for the women with the incidents of chain snatching dipping by nearly 63% in the Commissionerate in the year 2019 as compared to 2018.

In consonance with the commitment of the Punjab government to make cities safe for the women, the Commissionerate Police has been able to considerably control the incidents of chain snatching in the passing year and tracing all the cases of this crime with the arrest of 142 accused and recovery of Rs 16.28 lakh. As per the details 312 incidents of chain snatching took place in Jalandhar in year 2018 which was reduced to 118 in 2019.

Similarly, the Commissionerate Police also cracked down on the notorious gangsters and arrested three members of Yankey gang and solved nine cases after their investigation. Likewise, other gangsters including Paramjit Singh alias Baba, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma and Kulwinder Singh alias Kaka were also arrested.

Similarly, 693 POs and Absconders were also arrested by the Commissionerate Police during this year. Under the NDPS Act the Commissionerate Police also managed to get approved three cases of property attachment under the Act from the competent authority.

The market value of the property was Rs 1.11 crore. Two more such cases were under process and have been submitted in the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Under NDPS Act 247 cases were registered and 321 persons were arrested with 9.5 kilogram Heroin, 24 kilogram Opium, 825 gram intoxicant powder, 619 kilogram poppy husk, 150 gram smack, 17 kilogram ganja, one kilogram Charas, 9337 capsules, 1730 injections and 14152 injections.

Similarly, under excise Act 408 cases were registered and 476930 ml of illicit liquor, 1806900 ml of licit liquor, 55677090 ml English wine and 29 kilogram lahan were recovered.

Likewise, 159 cases of gambling were registered in city and 318 accused were arrested with recovery of Rs 45.89 lakh. 20 FIRs were registered under the Arms Act and 16 pistols, three revolvers, five country made pistols (desi katta), three magazines and 280 cartridges were recovered.

The recovery for resolution of cases pertaining to Robbery was Rs 52 lakh, Rs 18.15 lakh from Burglary, Rs 23.59 lakh from Theft and Rs 91.71 lakh from 411 IPC.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that he has laid special thrust on controlling crimes in the area under their jurisdiction. He said that PCR teams of the Commissionerate Police have been asked to be more responsive, prompt and effective for dealing with crime and tackling any sort of law and order problem in the city.

Mr. Bhullar said that the PCR teams have a lot of responsibility in dealing with any crime as they have been mandated with the job of reaching on the spot of crime as soon as they get the information.

The Commissioner of Police further said that special focus has been laid to ensure prompt and speedy response from the Police stations and PCR to any call made by the people regarding crime or mishap. Mr. Bhullar said that vigilance has been stepped up in the city and senior officers have been asked to themselves monitor the nakas in their area.

He said that thrust was being laid to make sure that every officer discharges their duty efficaciously so that criminals don’t dare to indulge in crime.

Mr. Bhullar said that this was just a baby step and the ultimate goal was to make city crime free adding that with the active support and cooperation of the general public this target would be achieved in the year 2020.
