Jalandhar Commissionerate Police holds sensitization workshop on ‘Shakti App’ of Schools, Colleges for Safety of Women

The Commissionerate police today held a sensitization workshop on ‘Shakti Mobile App’ for the schools and colleges to ensure the safety and security of the women in the city.

During the workshop held at Police Lines, Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the mobile app has been developed to provide immediate help to the women in need and the women must download the app in their phones.

He said that by just pressing a ‘HELP’ option in the app, which will a send message instantly to the Commissioner of Police, area ACP and SHO of police station, control room and 10 contact numbers which the app user will add in the app, the help will be ensured promptly to the woman.

Further, this will also give a location of the app user to the contact numbers, police officials and control room, Mr Bhullar added.

He told that the application is available in Android-based mobiles and has key features include SOS, report of where I am, click and mail and police stations details.

Mr Bhullar said that the bilingual app, English and Punjabi, will also help the police in identifying the persons with criminal tendency with the help of the app users who could click their pictures and send to the police for verification and further necessary action.

He told that the main focus was to curb the crime against women by speeding up police response and helping in the prevention of crime against women through the app.

He said that police teams and officials of the Saanjh Kendras will also visit the schools and colleges to make the girls aware of the application and the usage process.

The Commissioner of Police solicited the fulsome support of the schools and colleges to aware the students and others about the app.

Mr Bhullar said that the Commissionerate Police was committed to providing a safe living environment to women and protect them against offences like eve-teasing, molestation, stalking, chain snatching and others.

He also appreciated Taxi and Auto-Rickshaw unions present in the meeting for giving their support to the police.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) Mr Gurmeet Singh, Mr Arun Saini and staff members of various educational institutions and others were present.
