Further honouring 15-years-old braveheart Kusum for demonstration of indomitable gallantry, and valour during snatching incident, district administration Jalandhar has made graffiti dedicated to her besides announced her district brand ambassador under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme.
The move has come after her nomination was sent for the national bravery award by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori a few days back.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that graffiti has been made on Kusum for her extraordinary courageous act bearing slogans, ‘Epitome of Bravery-Kusum’. He said that Kusum’s act of bravery and valour has made the entire city proud as she has emerged as an idol for the girls.
He said that the administration would continue to highlight the importance of girl child in the society through such works under Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao program.
Notably, Kusum, a student of 8th class from Lala Jagat Narayan DAV Model School on August 30, 2020, had faced a theft attempt in which two bike-borne youth had tried to snatch her mobile phone, which was given to her by her brother to attend online classes. The snatchers had attacked her with sharp weapons giving Kusum severe injuries on her wrist. Kusum despite having grave injuries managed to catch one of the bike-borne snatchers.
Earlier, to ensure national bravery honour to the 15-year old braveheart Kusum’s extraordinary act of valour, Deputy Commissioner recommended her name for the national bravery award that is given by the Indian Council for Child welfare every year to honour exemplary act of bravery. She was also facilitated with financial assistance and appreciation by the district administration.
